The Gyaing Kawkareik Bridge is a four-lane extra-dosed bridge, which crosses the Gyaing River connecting the Ayewady Region, Bago Region, Taninthayi Region, Mon State and Kayin State to the Myawady border trade point.
It is part of the East-west Economic Corridor Improvement Project which targeted to provide better road connectivity from Mawlamyine, Myanmar to Danang City, Vietnam crossing Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
The bridge is Myanmar’s first composite corrugated steel web extradosed bridge and will replace the existing old Gyaing Bridge which was built in 1997.
